This Fashion Film could only have been made by/for Prada. Always the intellectual brand! I mean, is it not luxury to have a video screenplayed by Roman Polanski? Is it not amazing that Helena Bonham Carter is acting in it? (ANYTHING with Helena Bonham Carter is amazing!) Isn't the violet-red combination quite fantastic? Isn't Ben Kingsley pretty funny?

Franz Schubert- Trio in E-Flat

So, my favorite director will always be Stanley Kubrick. My favorite movie, Barry Lyndon. It's just... art! My favorite scene, this one, when Barry and Lady Lyndon kiss for the first time. The pace of it, combined with Schubert's Trio, is pure magic. Such elegance. Then again, it's Kubrick! Check it out:

And... I'm bringing all this up because I was watching The Hunger (1983) for the first time tonight, and oh surprise, Trio in E-Flat makes an appearance in this film as well. Catherine Deneuve + David Bowie + Schubert [+ Bauhaus + Susan Sarandon + amazing early 80's styling]... can this movie get any better?!!

Now that was a excerpt from Venus, a cosmetics manufacturer, and one of the 7 most powerful individuals in the world introduced in Alejandro Jodorowsky's cult psychedelic film The Holy Mountain (1973). If you haven't watch it, you must! This films is filled with symbolism, so I wont attempt a ridiculous simple description of it here. But I'll give you this: The introduction of Mars, the weapons manufacturer. It is equally brilliant in it's use of satire! And it's amongst my favorite scenes of the movie as well.

"...we have psychedelic shotguns,

grenade necklaces...."

Intrigued? I sure hope so!

I like to think that last year's obsession with butterfly prints had something to do with Damien Hirst. This year's obsession with flowers... that I don't know, but I'm loving it so far. Anyway, just wanted to share a few of Hirst's silkscreens from his Psalm Prints series. They are majestic!

Persuade Bilbao

On a recent trip to rainy Bilbao, I was advised to visit this multi-brand shop, Persuade. And wow, I haven't seen such a nice mix of avant-guarde designers in one place for a long while. Comme Des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Dries Van Noten and Bernhard Willem just to name a few. Oh and Olympia Le-Tan was there too! First time I see her stuff in Spain actually, so that was a great surprise.

Persuade also has a huge area in the back dedicated to wacky decoration pieces. A random mix of Asian ceramics and "artistic" furniture. The girls that work there were nice enough to let me go around the shop playing photographer, so, check out these pics:

Miu Miu S/S 2012 Ad Campaign is finally out. Shot by David Sims, staring actress Mia Wasikowska (a.k.a Alice in Wonderland), who brings a little hint of magic into these images. Well, there's nothing like bright yellow to make the colors and the kitschy prints of this collection pop! And every shot looks like a modern take of a portrait from an other era. I wish a film could be styled like this: a Victorian-age novel like Vanity Fair or Great Expectations would be an incredibly perfect fit. Don't you think? Well, as a start, I wish there would be a fashion film of this collection. Set in an incredibly bright Victorian-era London of course! And if possible, directed by Burton. That'd be gold.

Fashion film fantasy apart, I'm loving the cerulean cameo earrings and bracelet. There's nothing like adding bold colors to something classic to turn it modern, and even quite a bit funky (That's Marc Jacobs' best trick). And oh, I'm all about the flowers. A head full of flowers! Next time you'll see me, my hair will be looking exactly like that of Wasikowska on these photos. Luckily, I have my mother's vintage hair flowers to assist me in this new obsession.

I must confess that the Fashion Week that I always enjoy the most is London. Collections tend to be more daring, designers seem to have a lot more fun, and there's a constant explosion of colors and prints. Everything's just, in essence, cool. What's not to love. Here are some of my favorite looks:

Ashish

As I was saying on my NYFW Post, I do love a good print mashup. And this collection provides some great ones. As usual, Ashish, I love you! I mean, these prints bring to mind digital collages: cutting and pasting images of flowers on top of animal prints... fantastic! The collection also takes me back to those obscure early days of my adolescence, in the mid-nineties, when sunflowers where the thing, for like a minute. Do you remember this too, or is my mind finally playing tricks on me? And while on the subject of the nineties, I love the grungy feel of these looks as well. I'm curious about one thing though: Why are Ashish's collections never included on Style.com?!

Burberry Prorsum

I'm usually a lot more excited about stuff coming from younger labels. Instead of the mainstream luxury brands. But then Mr. Bailey goes and designs a collection as graphic as this, and it makes me glow (like in the dark) with glee. You had me at Tribal + Brit. The color palette is also incredible, although it speaks more Fall than Spring to me. But whatever. And... amazing parkas. Je suis impressionné.

Parkas will be the thing in Spring 2012, so of course, BP had this in the bag. I specially love these 2 short ones:

Christopher Kane

Delicate and graphic; digital and hand-made. Opposites do attract in this collection. The appliqués are gorgeous, bringing life into the otherwise simple shapes. And (!) here's another digital-collage type of print (flowers), as with Ashish, but on top of sheer fabrics. Like flower printouts glued on top of vellum. Nice and clever stuff.

Giles

Metallicly-speaking, it seems to me that this collection is a perfect continuation of Christopher Kane's Resort 2012. And by continuation I mean: lots more Sci-Fi fashion to choose from. Particularly fitting for attending events such as... celebrating the Blu-Ray launch of Interstella 5555. Yeah, you heard me, all that electronic goodness now in Hi-Def! But back to the clothes, the whole show felt more haute couture than RTW; and the laser-cut dresses and skirts are like little pieces of art in themselves.

Jonathan Saunders

I just love how laid-back and feminine this collection is. Saunders is a master in print-creation, and always uses just the right combination of colors. The pastels in these looks are a visual delight.

Marios Schwab

This bathing-suit is just to cool to handle.

I can stare at it all day long.

It even has a triangle!

I feel like writing a Haiku for it:

(Ok maybe I should leave poems to poets)

But also... my aspirational-me wants to look like this every day. A girl out of a film noir. Or a style-consious witch. I even dyed my hair a darker shade of brown as a first step to getting there. Now if I could only get those dresses... Sheer fabrics, sequins and black: perfection!

Meadham Kirchhoff

MK are always the highlight of fashion month for me. I sometimes go back to their S2011 collection, like you would with a favorite movie or book. Why I <3 them so much? Lets see: Making the unfashionable fashionable, check; using nostalgia, check; always putting on a show, check; creating outrageous clothes and looks, check; using Hole as inspiration and reference, check. I could go on you know... This collection feels like a pastel-colored milkshake between a Burton-esque Carnival and Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, but crazier. Maybe the movie would've been even better if the cast was dressed like this!

Do you remember Regina George's cut-out tee? Ha!

The cardigan on the right is awesome.

Mulberry

I could buy and wear this entire collection. It's so relaxed and urban. And cool, it's just so cool. Period. Plus, it has all the it elements of the season: shear long skirts and dresses, parkas, and platforms. Someone did her homework.

NYFW Spring 2012

It has taken me the better part of 3 nights to gather this up, but it is finally here: My review on NYFW. FW2011 and SS2011 where such amazing seasons that I guess I was setting my expectations way to high. In that sense, it was a mayor letdown since these collections where more about wearability than statement. In other words: Safe.

Still, I'm very on board with pastels for next spring, acid hued shoes, and summer parkas and leather jackets to wear on top of any day or evening dress (mayor trend). So, not all hope is lost. Here are some of my favorite looks:

Alice + Olivia

This collection is perfect for Glee's Emma, don't you think? The looks are sweet in just the right amount, and perfect for a night out with the girls. Love the pastels.

Anna Sui

I feel like you can always count on AS to make things fun. This time in the way of early-seventies inspiration. There where so many fun fun party dresses, and specially, so many really cool chunky necklaces: with hearts, stars and even domino pieces. So I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on one of those next spring!

Band of Outsiders

I'm always a fan of masculine-turn-femenine looks, and these 2 are perfect examples. Specially the one in the right. Loving it. I would wear them with supper high-heel booties though.

Christian Siriano

And enter the sheering flowy long skirt. So far the it thing of the season. Combined with a tee, it's glam and casual, all at the same time. Perfect for fab parties on the Mediterranean coast. Nothing less than that would do.

Marc Jacobs

I was like wait, I need to go through this collection a second time, it'll surelly grow on me. There must have been something awesome in there somewhere. I mean, it's MJ. Maybe I wasn't paying attention to the slides. But no, the whole flapper meets Adidas meets cowgirls meets high-school art project went NOWHERE. And I don't know why this is making me so angry, and all that green transparent paper [or fabric, or whatever it was] is making me a little nauseous. Ok ok not all was bad, and I did actually like these 2 dresses: (But you have to admit: No big statement there)

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Now this collection was making a lot more sense to me that the MJ one. It's simple and fresh. It flows. It also reminds me of Jil Sander's Spring 2011 one (color-blocking & simple shapes), but for girls, and that's actually a very good thing. Plus the shoes are fantastic!

Nanette Lepore

The sun-dress on the right is SO Sookie 1st season, right? Loved the colors in this collection and the bags and sandals look adorable.

Proenza Schouler

Their past collections have been amazing, so understandably, my expectations where way up high. The first half of this collection was a little too muddy for my taste, with too much browns and blacks (not at all spring-like), but as the second half came in, colors became brighter and the kitschy Hawaii-inspired prints made my day. The dress on the right side makes me think of linoleum and cheap motels on the beach... but somehow, thanks to PS magic, it makes so much sense. I'm crazy about the platforms as well.

Rodarte

Rodarte is one of those brands that either you love, or don't get at all. Most of their dresses are definitely hard to wear. These 2, however, I so would! LOVE the colors, the shapes, everything.

Thakoon

Finally someone that did feel like putting on a show! And while I'm usually a big fan of mashups (this time Wild West vs. India) and using mixed prints in one look, these 2 (the simplest),

where my favorite ones. I also like the turquoise booties a lot.

Theyskens' Theory

Smart. Edgy. Urban. Cool. Super wearable.

Perfect leather jacket. Love the platforms.

Soundtracks will have to wait another week, I'm back to the 90's today.

I was just watching the other day an episode (S02E01) of Buffy TVS and saw Cibo Matto playing at the "Bronze" (and Angel appearing all broodingly hot in the back). Wow, I haven't though about them in ages, so after a quick visit to Youtube I fell in love with the band all over again!

AND, playing alongside the girls of Cibo Matto on Buffy was of course Sean Lennon! Just goes to prove how cool that show was.

Speaking of amazing... I'm obsessed with prints and pattern design, so I'm always on the lookout for great ideas. Enter my latest discovery: We Make Carpets, a Netherland-based group founded by designers Bob Waardenburg, Marcia Nolte and Stijn van der Vleuten. Basically, they create the most amazing carpets out painstakingly arranging hundreds, if not thousands, of the most mundane objects, like paperclips and plastic forks, into patterns. Here are my favorite projects:

Ok this is a far more inspired playlist than last week's, since it's the soundtrack of one of my all-time-fave movies: The Royal Tenenbaums. A brilliant soundtrack is part of what makes a great movie, well, great... and this one includes some of the best bands/artists. Plus, I've been wanting to post something with The Velvet Underground and Nico, so this presented the perfect occasion! I'm starting to like this soundtrack playlists idea a lot, many many movies come to mind. Stay tuned!
